About the Job
We are recruiting an Electoral Services Assistant to work in the Electoral Services Team

About Us
We work hard to make Newcastle a great place in which to live, work, and visit. As a unitary authority, we are responsible for providing all local government services within the city including social services, waste management, housing, and education. We are committed to making our residents’ lives happier and healthier.

You will be part of the diverse, talented, and resourceful teams that are striving to deliver our ambitions for our great city. If you are just as passionate and committed as us to making a difference to Newcastle and our people, join us and make a real difference.

Our colleagues are committed to our values of proud, fair, and ambitious which are at the centre of everything we do.

The Job
Are you passionate about ensuring fair, transparent, and accessible elections?  If so, we invite you to join our Electoral Services Team in Newcastle and be part of an exciting time of major elections and new regulations governing the electoral process.

As an Electoral Services Assistant we are looking for someone with recent experience in working in a busy environment, inputting high volumes of personal data accurately and efficiently and using different types of software in their work.  You should have highly developed IT and keyboard skills, with great attention to detail and be able to demonstrate excellent customer services skills.  You should have an interest in elections and democracy, however whilst experience of working on elections is desirable it is not essential.  You will also be involved with preparing equipment for elections, which may involve an element of manual handling.

We offer a flexible work arrangement, with a combination of home and office working, except during the election timetable and certain electoral registration periods.  You should be prepared to work, additional hours at peak periods, including evenings and weekends.  Due to the nature of the role, there may be restrictions on when annual leave can be taken.

The Candidate
The ideal candidate will have previous experience working in a busy environment and using IT applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel.   Although electoral experience is advantageous, it is not essential.  As this role involves manual handling tasks, you must be able to perform physical tasks as and when required, such as lifting and carrying election equipment.

You should have a high degree of accuracy as this skill is very important in this role.   You should be able to work well under pressure, show organisational skills, and manage your time and workload effectively.

If you are successful we will undertake additional recruitment checks which will include a check to see if you have any unspent criminal convictions.
