Further Information
Newcastle City Council is dedicated to transforming the city’s transport infrastructure, promoting sustainable travel, and supporting economic growth. We are currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated Principal Transport Planner to join our Engineering Consultancy Services team.
Transport is at the heart of the city's infrastructure, playing a critical role in shaping its future. We are not just a highway authority responsible for roads and bridges, we are architects of a connected, accessible, and sustainable transport network that improves the lives of everyone who lives and works in, or visits Newcastle.
A better-connected city improves the lives of every resident. As well as shaping our daily lives as we move around the city, it drives us to make changes that unlock improvements to the ways we live. Working closely with the combined authority and partners we will create a more efficient, affordable, and sustainable transport network that supports our ambition for Net Zero and inclusive economic growth. This includes supporting people to lead healthier lives and make more sustainable choices such as walking and cycling.
The Tyne Bridge restoration project shines a light on not only the value of our infrastructure itself but also on the talented individuals and teams within the Transport division who are constantly working to enhance our city.
We are a forward-thinking organisation dedicated to enhancing our region's infrastructure and promoting sustainable transport options. With significant active travel funding available from the North East Combined Authority, we want to strategically position ourselves to tap into this funding and enhance our active travel initiatives.
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Principal Transport Planner to lead the development and implementation of innovative and effective transport planning, policy, development, and research initiatives focused on active travel.
In this role, you will be focusing on developing active travel interventions and schemes, as well as considering how active travel can be integrated into a range of infrastructure. You will be leading on various aspects of work, including providing strategic direction for active travel initiatives and managing the development of active travel schemes. Additionally, you will support other Principal Transport Planners and work closely with the Technical Specialist (to be appointed) on optioneering and feasibility. You will also collaborate with a range of talented engineers on detailed design of schemes for issuing works for construction. Furthermore, you will act as the client under Construction (Design and Management) Regulations (CDM), ensuring compliance and safety throughout the project.
