To ensure the safe and effective day to day operational use of a waste transfer station in accordance with its Permit and provide frontline waste collection services as required, including driver/ loader on refuse collection and 7.5 tonne caged vehicles.

You will undertake visual checks on all waste delivered to the site to ensure it complies with the Permit, Council policy and procedures and work closely with other operational staff, suppliers and contractors, and maintain the transfer station and surrounding area in a clean, tidy and safe condition.

You will carry out routine vehicle driver and equipment operator checks, vehicle washing and routine maintenance in accordance with established procedures and ensure the safety of all users and traffic movement, the safe use of all plant, equipment and tools within the facility and that all work is performed in a safe and responsible manner in compliance with the relevant risk assessment.

You will drive Refuse, Roll On/ Roll off and Skip vehicles, load refuse and bulky waste and have occasional responsibility for a small team of refuse loaders, providing overall guidance and motivating staff to achieve service, objectives and quality standards,

You will ensure that work is performed in a safe and responsible manner in compliance with the relevant risk assessment and be the principal point of contact within the Team to respond to and deal with simple problems, queries or complaints from service users referring more complex issues to the immediate supervisor.

Extensive lifting, pulling and pushing on a daily basis. You should be able to maintain high levels of concentration for prolonged periods and to remain alert for staff, the public, traffic and other potential hazards.
You are required to attend training and development courses, meetings or other work sites and provide cover to alternative depots when required.
Your normal working week is Monday to Thursday, alternating with Wednesday to Saturday, with occasional evening, Bank Holiday and emergency call out work. You may be required to work overtime if necessary to complete collection rounds. Driving regulations apply.

You will be operating outdoors in all weathers and traffic conditions and in often hazardous and unpleasant conditions and have daily contact with unpleasant and potentially hazardous waste materials.

You must hold a current HGV Driving Licence category C and be the holder of a CPC qualification, and be willing to work towards accredited training in the use of mobile plant and machinery used for loading vehicles and an NVQ 2 in Waste Management or equivalent.
