Cleaswell Hill School is a day community Special School for 187 children (designated age range 4 – 19) with complex learning difficulties and disabilities. Some pupils have additional physical or sensory difficulties, medical and health needs, and others are diagnosed as being within the autistic spectrum. The school achieved an outstanding Ofsted grade in 2017.

This permanent post is a key element of the school’s vision for integrated therapy and education within the context of the schools 5-year strategic plan. It is an existing opportunity to join an established team that is committed to improving the quality of life for 187 children on roll aged between 5 and 18 years of age.

The candidate will have experience of working within an integrated education and therapy team approach as well as an understanding of the Code of Practice/Education Health Care Plans and a working knowledge of Keeping Children Safe in Education.

The successful candidate will play a supporting role in developing the culture of multi-disciplinary working practices, epitomised by exemplifying high quality therapy delivery and supporting education staff in understanding the impact of working in highly effective partnerships with therapists.

Extensive experience working with children with autism is required. Post graduate training in sensory integration is essential.

The post holder should have knowledge and experience as a Paediatric Occupational Therapist, within a school setting, to support a personalised approach to improving outcomes taking account of assessed evidence of need, which can be prioritised in line with school policy.

The school has a large, well-qualified and talented team of teaching and support staff who together provide a personalised, high quality learning experience for each child. Strong support is also received from a team of visiting professionals, including speech and language therapists, occupational therapists and physiotherapists.

This post is variable 15-30 hours initially to start at 15 hours per week full year (negotiable).
