Post 1 – Senior Business Support Officer support to Planning (ref BS601)

This full time permanent role is to provide support to the Planning Department who are working to help shape the future of the largest city in the North East of England by delivering a range of projects including city centre redevelopment sites, new housing development and householder extensions.

You will play a key role in receiving and validating a wide range of planning applications. You must be prepared to work in an extremely busy environment delivering a polite and professional service within specified timescales.

You should have excellent IT skills. Experience in working in a planning environment, matching statistical data and information to specific criteria and experience in the use of GIS or mapping tools is desirable.

You will need to have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office and possess excellent organisational and communication skills. We are looking for flexible team player to join us in developing excellent service provision.

Post 2 – Senior Business Support Officer support to Planning – North East Community Forestry and Planning Policy (ref BS602)

This is a full time fixed term role from 1 April 2023 for two years to provide support to the North East Community Forest Team and the Council’s Planning Department.

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a busy and demanding role at the heart of the organisation working closely with officers on the Newcastle Local Plan, a range of Development Management administration duties, and the North East Community Forest plan and programme.

Experience of manipulation and management of datasets is essential. You should also have excellent IT skills.

Experience of organising consultation and community events is desirable.

You will need to be able to show attention to detail, be calm, methodical, organised and able to act on your own initiative as well as part of a team and be able to build and maintain effective working relationships.

We work in a flexible way with working time split between an office base at the Civic Centre in Newcastle and remotely from your home. You will be provided with the necessary IT kit to enable you to work in this way.
