The Liberty Protection Safeguards (LPS) are due to replace the current Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) expected to go live in 2023/24. This is a significant legislative change across both adults, children’s, and provider services.

In order to support us to successfully embed this change in law, South Tyneside Adults and Integrated Care have a unique opportunity for an experienced lead officer with legal and adult social care knowledge and experience, at a management level.

You will hold statutory duties and requirements under the Mental Capacity Act (MCA), and the Liberty Protection Safeguards (LPS) and will work across the Council and partners to ensure that the MCA/LPS agenda is embedded within all appropriate policies, services and functions in accordance with legislative change.

It is essential that you have working knowledge of the Safeguarding Adults agenda, legislative and statutory requirements, policy, and guidance, as well as the Care Act and will be highly skilled in Risk Management.

You will possess the ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with relevant key partners such as Integrated Care Systems, Foundation Trusts, Mental Health Services, other social care partners etc.

You will have excellent communication skills and be familiar with Performance Management and analysis, as well as team planning and evaluation activities. You will be highly skilled in providing supervision and appraisal to individuals and the team and you will be able to demonstrate you have experience of developing and setting best practice standards and service delivery relating to the MCA and associated legislation.

As this is a key managerial role you must have experience of chairing complex strategic meetings, writing and presenting reports at a senior level, excellent communication skills, partnership working, policy and strategy development, be able to lead and develop the organisational outcomes to deliver policy and strategy objectives and targets as well as a track record of delivering change.

The role will be challenging but very rewarding and you must either be a registered Social Worker, Qualified Nurse, Occupational Therapist or Chartered Psychologist and have post qualifying training as a Deprivation of Liberty assessor.

For those posts where there is a requirement to either work in or enter a Care Quality Commission Regulated Care Home (CQC) it would be preferred but optional, that you have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (unless medical exempt) as a condition of employment.

Closing date: Noon, 30 September 2022.
