Further Information
Love a risk assessment more than most? Then read on...
As a Health and Safety Advisor, you'll play a key role in helping the North East Mayoral Strategic Authority create and maintain a safe, healthy and compliant environment for employees, volunteers, service users and visitors.
The role
Working closely with managers and in partnership with Durham County Council's Health and Safety Team, you'll provide expert advice, support the development and implementation of policies and procedures, and help embed a positive health and safety culture across the organisation.
This is a varied and rewarding role where no two days are the same. From supporting risk assessments and investigating incidents, to delivering training, undertaking workplace inspections and monitoring compliance, you'll help ensure that health and safety remains at the heart of everything we do. You'll also coordinate key emergency preparedness arrangements, including Fire Wardens, First Aiders, emergency evacuation drills, PEEPs and DSE assessments, helping colleagues understand their responsibilities and promoting continuous improvement across our workplaces and services.
About you
We're looking for a proactive and knowledgeable health and safety professional who is passionate about creating safe, healthy and inclusive working environments.
You'll be someone who:
- Has strong technical knowledge of health and safety legislation, guidance and best practice.
- Enjoys building positive relationships and influencing others.
- Can provide clear, practical and proportionate advice.
- Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Is confident analysing risks and identifying opportunities for improvement.
- Takes a collaborative approach to problem-solving and service delivery.
- Has strong organisational skills and excellent attention to detail.
- Most importantly, you'll be committed to helping colleagues stay safe while supporting the organisation to deliver its objectives effectively and compliantly.
What It Isn't
This isn't a role where you'll spend all day quoting legislation or sitting behind a desk reviewing policies.
It's not about saying "no" to ideas or creating unnecessary barriers.
One day you could be supporting a manager with a risk assessment, the next delivering training, investigating an incident, undertaking workplace inspections, coordinating emergency preparedness activities or helping improve health and safety arrangements across the organisation.
This is a role for someone who enjoys variety, values collaboration and wants to make a genuine difference to the safety, wellbeing and confidence of colleagues across the North East MSA.
If You
...are an organised and approachable health and safety professional with strong technical knowledge, excellent communication skills, a keen eye for detail, the ability to influence and build positive relationships, a practical approach to problem-solving, and a passion for creating safe, healthy and inclusive workplaces, we would love to hear from you.
We are proud to be an inclusive employer, and we welcome applications from people of all backgrounds, communities and experiences. We support flexible working and encourage applications from candidates who are under-represented including women, disabled people, LGBTQ+ people and those from Black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds.
