This is an exciting opportunity to be part of team caring for a sibling group in a new children's home in North Tyneside. As a Residential Childcare Officer, you will be passionate about ensuring children have the highest standards of care, from people who understand trauma and advocate for children. Our children's homes are committed to ensuring children feel safe, cared for and well supported, striving to provide high quality, trauma informed care to all of our children. The successful applicant will work as part of a team providing 24/7 care to children, promoting their health, education, well-being and family connections.
The core responsibilities of this role will include:
Working as part of a team, on a rota basis, working a variety of shifts.
Proving high quality care to children, which exceeds those set out in the quality standards and Children's Home regulations
Developing strong and meaningful relationships with children and ensuring they feel listened to and respected
Role modelling positive behaviour and supporting children to develop in all areas of their lives
Ensuring children's records and paperwork are well written and kept up to date
Working in partnership with other professionals and family members in children's best interests
The successful candidate
You will have a good understanding of your responsibilities under Children's Home Regulations and good understanding of legislation relevant to the role
You will have experience in working with children, ideally in a children's home or another service which is relevant to the role
You will have an understanding of trauma and how children's experiences can impact on their emotional and behavioural development
You will have excellent communication skills, be compentent using computer systems and be able to work well with others
You will be passionate about children feeling loved, support and having the same opportunities as their peers.
You will be committed to supporting children to achieve good outcomes and having aspirations for the future.
You will have good emotional resilience and be able to support children emotionally
Ideally you will have a Level 3 diploma for Residential Childcare, or be willing to complete this within 2 years
It would be advantageous to also have an understanding of PACE as a model of care and CALM physical intervention, although training will be provided.
