An opportunity has arisen for two experienced and knowledgeable Senior Planning Officers to join our Development Management Team. We manage a diverse range of planning matters and are committed to delivering high-quality, sustainable development across County Durham. Through early engagement and a pragmatic approach, we support the Council's growth ambitions and help shape thriving communities.

WHAT IS INVOLVED?

As a Senior Planning Officer, you will manage complex planning applications from pre-application advice through to determination and appeals. You will work on a range of major developments including housing, commercial, infrastructure, renewable energy, and minerals and waste projects. You will also have opportunities to lead significant projects and support the development of junior officers, making a real impact on the future of County Durham.

WHAT WILL I NEED? 

You will need:
  • Educated to Degree level or equivalent in a relevant town planning qualification (G11) and have a Professional qualification (RTPI) (G12).
  • Proven experience in planning and development management, with a solid understanding of planning policies and procedures.
  • The ability to work effectively on complex and large-scale projects.
  • A passion for delivering high-quality, sustainable development in diverse environments.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to engage with developers, stakeholders, and the public.
