Who we’re looking for:

We are looking for a calm, creative and adaptable Teacher to join our Alternative Provision Team. You will provide consistent, personalised teaching for a young adult with autism and learning disabilities. We require someone who is experienced working within the Primary Curriculum and working with a young adult, who has limited verbal communication skills.

About our Alternative Provision

KEYFORT provides highly personalised education for children and young people/young adults with EHCPs, who are not able to access learning through a traditional classroom or environment. Teaching is planned around each student’s EHCP outcomes, strengths, interests, communication, sensory and emotional needs, with a strong focus on engagement, independence, life skills and meaningful progress.

The Teacher role

This is a hands-on teaching role, working with an 18 year old lady, alongside Teaching Assistants and Learning Support Assistants within the home and hoping to move into a local base. You will have the freedom to adapt lessons, use practical and interest-led activities and take the time to build trusting relationships.

We are looking for someone who understands that progress will look different for each individual and very flexible in their approach to accommodate their regulation state. You will be patient and reflective, remain calm around behaviours of concern and be willing to change your approach when something is not working. You should be confident providing direction to support staff and working closely with families, care teams and other professionals.

This role is suited to a Teacher, who is seeking a change of pace from a traditional classroom or busy SEN setting. Unlike typical teaching roles that involve delivering lessons to a full class, this position focuses on personalised support, short interest and ability led activities as well as following recommendations from SALT. Additionally, the young lady has access to be able to go into the community and engage in swimming and other life skill/therapy activities. This allows for a more individualised, consistent, and meaningful approach to learning, where you can make a lasting impact on a person’s educational journey.

You will plan and deliver engaging, adapted learning activities linked to the young person’s EHCP targets, individual needs, and educational outcomes. This may include creating visual resources, adapting learning materials, supporting communication, and using approaches that support both verbal and non-verbal interaction.

Collaboration will be key. You will work alongside Teaching Assistants, Learning Support Assistants, our SEND Lead, Coordinators, the young person’s care team, family, and external professionals, where appropriate, to ensure a holistic, person-centred approach.
Experience supporting young people with complex needs, SEND, SEMH needs, autism, profound learning disabilities, or behaviours of concern would be beneficial.

Applicants who already hold an enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service would be ideal.

Essential Criteria:

• Qualified Teacher Status

• Experience teaching a range of ages and a good knowledge of the curriculum.

• Experience delivering adaptive lessons for a range of abilities.

• Experience supporting children or young people with SEND, SEMH needs, autism, profound learning disabilities, or complex behaviours of concern

• Experience of using SALT activities and a using a range of communication aids.

• Confidence supporting young people who may display challenging or complex behaviours (Training will be provided)

• Ability to plan and deliver differentiated, person-centred learning activities

• A naturally calm, positive, and resilient attitude that helps create a safe, supportive, and engaging environment

• Ability to be innovative and adapt your planning on the spot to enhance learning opportunities.

• Strong understanding of safeguarding policies and practices

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

• Ability to work collaboratively with Teaching Assistants, Learning Support Assistants, families, care teams, and external professionals

• Ability to maintain accurate records of learning, progress, and engagement

• An understanding of Alternative Provision and how it differs from a traditional school setting.

Desirable Criteria:

• Additional qualifications or training in SEN support

• Knowledge of effective behaviour support strategies

• Experience creating or using visual aids or alternative communication systems

• Experience contributing to EHCP targets, ILPs, care plans, or transition plans

• Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service

• Full driving license and access to a vehicle, due to the potential community-based elements of the role

Role Responsibilities:

• Plan and deliver personalised learning activities linked to the young person’s EHCP targets and individual needs

• Deliver high-quality, safe, and person-centred teaching and support at an appropriate level.

• Engage the young person and access the wider community/therapy sessions.

• Adapt learning materials and approaches to meet the young person’s learning, communication, sensory, and emotional needs

• Support the young person to develop confidence, independence, communication, emotional regulation, and social interaction

• Work closely with Teaching Assistants and Learning Support Assistants, providing guidance and direction where appropriate.

• Monitor progress, gather evidence of learning, and maintain accurate educational records using our online portal.

• Contribute to reviews, support planning, and communication with professionals where required

• Support with associated administration, setting up learning materials, and maintaining a clean and safe classroom environment

• Work alongside families, care staff, and external professionals to ensure a joined-up approach, where appropriate

• Safeguard the young person at all times and act in their best interests
