Sunderland City Council is working with its partners and the DfE to create a new organisation to deliver their children’s services.

The new organisation, to be known as Together for Children – Sunderland, is seeking a Non-Executive Director - Finance for its Board of Directors.

Together for Children – Sunderland will ensure the best possible outcomes for children and young people and will deliver the services they need to live safe, happy, healthy and successful lives. The organisation will operate in shadow form prior to going live in April 2017.

As part of this move, the Council have appointed a Chief Executive, a Director of Performance and Quality, a Director of Education Services and a Director of Children’s Social Care, who are already working within the Council.

We have also successfully recruited three Non-Executive Director Board members who will be responsible for the success of the Company in improving services for children in the city. We are now seeking an additional Non Executive Director who has an understanding of relevant, complex, industry-wide, regulated systems and processes. You should have a sound understanding and experience of corporate governance and a suitable qualification, eg Chartered Director, FT NED Diploma, Company Secretarial qualifications. You should also bring a sound understanding of financial management, company accounts and budgetary control.

Successful candidates must have the time and commitment to fulfil the role, around 15 days annually, in order to prepare for and attend meetings; be passionate about improving opportunities for children; have strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to the company’s values and public service nature; be a strategic thinker as well as have relevant experience and professional knowledge.
This role is critical in ensuring the financial sustainability of the company.
