Job Locations: One of the Service’s Children’s Homes which are located around County Durham

Durham County Council now have openings for enthusiastic individuals who have a good understanding of Residential work with children to join the Local Authority’s Residential Services as Homes Managers, managing one of our children’s homes. This is a unique opportunity for the right people to lead a team of staff to provide high quality care for children and young people and help them to achieve their potential.

The successful candidates will be good leaders who can make and maintain professional relationships with both children and adults. They will make sure that young people are at the centre of everything that happens in the home. We are looking for people who are excellent problem solvers and who can work collaboratively with others to ensure that young people receive the best possible service.

This post is predominantly office hours but candidates will need to be able to work flexibly when required to help manage the busy logistics of a children’s home. Duties will include the supervision, support and performance management of the staff team which will be upward of nine people. The Homes Manager will lead on the ongoing development of the home using feedback from young people and their families and other agencies and of monitoring all aspects of the home as required by the Children’s Homes Regulations 2015. The postholder will ensure that legislation is met in all areas which includes their own Registration as Homes Manager with Ofsted.

Required qualifications: A qualification in Social Care or related fields equal to or above NVQ Level 4 and a Diploma Level 4/5 in Management or with a commitment to undertaking this qualification when appointed.

Required experience: Recent substantial experience of working with young people and their families, with at least 1 year in a supervisory role. Experience of working in a residential setting.
