Legal Services, Law and Governance

Would you like to undertake varied, high quality legal work with like minded and supportive colleagues who are committed to providing excellent public service and making a difference within the local community?

We wish to recruit a flexible, highly skilled and enthusiastic lawyer to our Lexcel accredited legal team to provide maternity cover.

We have an excellent benefits package which includes generous annual leave and flexi-time.

We offer a modern, open plan, working environment with opportunities to use technology to work in a flexible and agile way. Our lawyers operate both autonomously and collaboratively to deliver high performance with light touch management. We provide a supportive environment for the development and maintenance of your professional skills and experience.

We are committed to delivering a high quality, cost effective legal service to the Authority. Candidates from both the public and private sector are encouraged to apply. It is essential that candidates have experience of and a genuine enthusiasm for Child Safeguarding law and an excellent approach to public service and client care.

Children’s Safeguarding

We are seeking a lawyer with experience of and a strong interest in Children’s Safeguarding legal matters.

You will provide legal advice, representation and undertake legal research relating to child safeguarding matters and will carry a caseload of matters in both proceedings and pre-proceedings. You will undertake advocacy in the relevant courts, including contested hearings and briefing counsel where appropriate.

You will be part of a busy legal team and at times may be required to undertake work in other areas covered by the team, including adult safeguarding, local authority prosecutions and housing injunctions. Experience in those fields is desirable but not essential and support and training will be provided as necessary.

North Tyneside Council has been placed among the top ten of children’s service departments nationally following our OFSTED inspection in March 2017. OFSTED gave the Authority’s services to safeguard children an overall judgment of ‘Good’ with ‘Outstanding’ features.

If you would like to be part of our dynamic, busy and friendly team committed to providing an excellent legal service in these vital areas of work we look forward to hearing from you.
