Further Information
The Gateshead Housing Company is a non-profit organisation responsible for the day-to-day management of nearly 20,000 homes.

We aim to provide excellent and efficient services to create homes and neighbourhoods that meet the aspirations of the people of Gateshead.

We employ over 700 people and involve our customers in making our services better.

An opportunity has arisen in the Lettings Team for the role of Lettings Assistant

We are seeking to appoint a Lettings Assistant who will provide advice to customers looking for rehousing and shortlist applicants for properties. You will be based at the Company’s head office.

The role involves providing specialised advice to customers seeking rehousing and a proactive approach to lettings; we will expect the successful applicant to seek rehousing solutions for applicants and minimise the time a property is vacant. This will involve effective liaison with other services and organisations to provide customers with tailored advice and information regarding their circumstances and prospects.

You will be expected to provide such advice via a variety of means such as face to face, telephone, letters, email and online messages received via the ‘Abritas’ system; the post may also involve home visits therefore a full driving license would be desirable. Customer service is a key part of this role and effective communication skills are essential; you should have experience of dealing with enquiries in a professional, caring and helpful manner.

The successful candidate will be required to check offers and carry out audits on customers to ensure that properties are allocated to the correct bidder in line with policy. This will include assessing customer details and liaising with relevant agencies with respect to references, vettings, pre-termination inspections and all other pre-allocation checks. Quality standards are important to ensure the letting is made to the most appropriate person.

Working as part of a large team, a positive work ethic and flexible, can-do attitude is important. Due to the high workload across the team and necessity to prioritise work, it is essential that the successful applicant has excellent organisational and time management skills.

The primary functions of this role will be providing appropriate advice to customers and ensuring effective shortlisting, however the successful applicant may also be required to provide wider support to the lettings section as necessary: effective team work is therefore essential.

To progress to the next stage it is important that you demonstrate in your application how you meet the essential criteria: applications will not be considered if they do not fulfil all essential criteria.

Please note: when referring to Equality and Diversity legislation we are looking for an understanding of customer needs rather than legal frameworks.

For an informal discussion about the role please email Ruth Rogerson, Lettings Manager, or call 0191 433 5486.

You should consider the job profile when applying, giving examples of how you meet the criteria.
