There has never been a more exciting time to work in Newcastle upon Tyne.

As a Unitary Authority, we are widely recognised, as a regional and national growth point, working with a range of local and regional partners, Central Government and businesses to deliver that vision. The Food Safety, Health and Safety and Noise Services sit within the Commercial team and together with Trading Standards and Events forms part of a coordinated delivery team.

The successful candidate will work as part of a holistic team covering compliance issues for commercial businesses and residents, as part of a wider public health delivery agenda. This is an exciting opportunity to work with other enforcers and partners within a very busy office. As an experienced officer the successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out functions across the full remit of Environmental Health work – including consumer complaints and business advice.

The successful candidate will also be responsible for undertaking complex investigations and contribute to a range of initiatives.

There will be the opportunity to develop your skills in a specialist area of work. You will need to be self-motivated and able to work with the minimum of supervision. You should be able to demonstrate a broad technical background across a range of Environmental Health and related disciplines. It is also critical that you possess excellent people skills allied with the ability to listen, explain, negotiate and influence. You should be computer literate.

The minimum educational requirement for this post is a Degree in Environmental Health/Diploma in Environmental Health (or equivalent), and a Certificate of Registration from the Environmental Health Registration Board (or equivalent), and able to demonstrate continuing professional development.
