Durham Shared Lives are recruiting Shared Lives Providers who can provide adults and young people aged 16 years and over with the care, security and stability that family life can offer.

A Shared Lives Provider shares their home and family life with an adult or young person aged 16 years or over who have:

• A learning disability

These people may find it difficult or impossible to live independently. Living with a Shared Lives Provider, means that they don’t have to be in residential care or live in isolation.

The level of care and support varies and will include personal care, encouraging independence skills and involvement in community activities.

Shared Lives Providers can decide if they would like to provide short-term, long-term or emergency care. A maximum of 3 people can be placed with a Shared Lives Provider.

We invite people of all ages and backgrounds to apply, we welcome people who are single, married and unmarried, with or without their own children, same sex couples, homeowners or tenants, employed, unemployed or retired. These are just examples, if your circumstances are different and you’d like to apply, please contact us.

• live permanently or be eligible for settlement (also called indefinite leave to remain) in the UK. If you are eligible for settlement, this means you can stay I the UK without any time restrictions.
