The Council's Enforcement Team protects people and the environment through the delivery of an effective enforcement and compliance service.

We contribute to Gateshead being a great place to live and work by investigating unauthorised developments, ensuring compliance with approved plans and conditions, ensuring compliance with highway legislation and investigating waste offences including fly tipping.

We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced officer to lead our busy and friendly team. We are looking for someone with experience of and confidence in regulation and investigation but also with a real depth of knowledge of planning legislation and enforcement.

You will be responsible for supervising the work of the team and managing performance, ensuring that systems, procedures and legislative requirements are followed. You will be required to use your knowledge of planning and enforcement to advise on complex issues and to provide professional advice to senior management and Councillors.

You will be liaising with a wide variety of people including landowners, business owners, developers, members of the public and Councillors and so you will be expected to have good communication and interpersonal skills. You must also have a Degree in planning or land-use based discipline.
