An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Benfield School to join our restructured Student Support Team from September.

Working to the Lead Professional – Student Support who manages a team of two Student Supervisor Advisers and two Learning Support Assistants, you will play a key role in supervising and supporting the learning of students within our Key Stage 3 and 4 Progress Room and our Inclusion Room.

Part of your time will be working with students within Key Stages 3 and 4 whose academic progress as a learner is considered to be vulnerable. This will be a central part of the trust’s developing strategy for managing in-year admissions and ensuring an effective induction and transition into mainstream classes. The rest of your time will be supervising students assigned to inclusion on a short-term basis as a result of challenging behaviour and implementing restorative approaches to prevent recurrence.

You will need a good knowledge of English and Maths at Level 2 or above and will ideally have higher level qualifications in order to effectively support students’ learning. Previous experience of working in a support or teaching role in a secondary school environment is highly desirable and you will need to be able to plan, deliver and assess effective learning interventions for learners across Key Stages 3 and 4.

Please note that the pay grade for this post is provisional and is still subject to formal moderation within the job evaluation process. The final grade will be communicated to candidates as soon as it is confirmed.

NEAT is highly committed to the professional development of its staff and identifying talent for the future. We also provide access to the Local Government Pension Scheme, a generous annual leave entitlement and have an accrued time policy.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. It is essential that all staff and volunteers share this commitment. You will need to have an enhanced criminal records check by the Disclosure and Barring Service.

As this post involves working with children, vulnerable adults or dealing with sensitive information, written references will be taken up and made available to interviewers before the final selection stage; even if you indicate otherwise.

A completed application form and criminal records declaration form must be submitted by 9am on Friday 24 January 2020 by email to lilian.reeson@benfield.newcastle.sch.uk

Assessment/interviews for shortlisted candidates: Tuesday 28 January 2020.
