An exciting post of Permanent Relief Residential Child Care Officer has arisen at Longside House Children's Home. Longside House offers medium to long term placements for young people aged between 10 and 18 years old with emotional and behavioural difficulties.

We have a committed and enthusiastic team of staff and you will become part of this team. You must have previous experience of working with young people and an understanding of the needs of young people in the care system. Knowledge and understanding of current child care legislation, together with child protection procedures is essential. You will need to understand the key issues relating to Looked After Children, be experienced in writing and presenting reports, and have the experience of working in partnership with parents, young people, social workers and other partner agencies.

Good written and verbal communication is essential as are good numeracy skills and the ability to handle and manage financial systems. A knowledge and understanding of computer skills is necessary. It is essential you hold an NVQ L3 in Children & Young People/L3 Diploma for Children & Young People Workforce or equivalent or are working towards this.

You will need to be flexible and you will be required to work shifts, which will include days, evenings, weekends, bank holidays and sleeping in duties as required. Additional payment will be made for any sleep in duties undertaken. The standard working week will be 30 hours. There will be an expectation that you will work up to 37 hours when needed. This is a permanent post however in terms of rota cover you will be expected to cover for sickness, holidays and training or any reason deemed necessary by the Registered Manager.

It is desirable but not essential that you hold a recognised Social Work qualification. It is essential that you are willing to undertake training as directed by the service and Registered Manager.
