Further Information
This is an exciting time for Sunderland. Our City Plan sets out a clear vision and priorities up to 2030. By then Sunderland will be a connected, international city with opportunities for all.

Our aspirations for Sunderland, focus on sustainability, health and wellbeing, social inclusion and prosperity, the ongoing regeneration of the city centre and
neighbourhoods, better connectivity, an enhanced cultural offer and improved
employment and skills opportunities for residents. We aim to create a dynamic,
healthy and vibrant city which helps to ensure we serve our communities and
residents to the highest standards possible.

Reporting to our Chief Executive, this exciting new post is a joint venture between Sunderland City Council and NHS Sunderland CCG to progress the City’s public health priorities and to deliver a joint integrated commissioning function. Leading our drive to become a Healthy City by 2030 you will ensure that all our residents have access to the same life chances and opportunities, enabling them to live healthier, longer, independent lives.

You’ll provide strong, visible, transformational and system leadership to drive improvements in the health and wellbeing of the residents of Sunderland, reducing inequalities in health outcomes, and working in collaboration with PHE, to protect local communities from threats to their health through infectious diseases, environmental and other public health hazards. You’ll also
develop and implement innovative joint, integrated commissioning arrangements
and service delivery across the NHS, clinical commissioning groups and the Local
Authority to deliver improved health and wellbeing outcomes.

If you share our ambition and are excited by this unique opportunity to make a real impact on the lives of 300,000 people, then we would like to hear from you. It’s important that you are a registered GMC, GDC or UK PHR public health specialist with significant experience in all areas of public health practice.
