Further Information
Polam Hall School wishes to appoint an enthusiastic Teacher of Drama to commence in early November 2020.

Maternity Cover - early November 2020 until early July 2021. NQT: Applications considered.
Start date: 2 November 2020

The role:
We seek a committed teacher of Drama who is enthusiastic, passionate and has high expectations of all students. We are looking for someone with the ability to teach Drama at KS3 and GCSE and to contribute to extra-curricular Drama, including our annual Senior School production later in the year. The role includes teaching both Year 10 and Year 11 GCSE students, who will already be part way through their courses.

The successful candidate will be a skilled and reflective practitioner who is able to maximise the potential of all our pupils; who will use teaching and assessment effectively to ensure that all pupils know and remember key knowledge and skills. We are also looking for a colleague who can make a contribution to the wider life of the school, through workshops, trips and visits as well as co-ordinate and showcase the Faculty and pupil skill through performances and displays.

If appointed you will be the sole teacher of Drama at Polam Hall. However, Drama is part of our energetic and exciting Performance and Practical Faculty, and so there is plenty of support from a team of colleagues. The subject is well resourced, with good planning in place, and most teaching takes place in our Liddiard Theatre - a fully equipped 250+ seat theatre with professional sound and lighting. We have very positive outcomes for students in Drama as well as good take up as an option subject at GCSE and are looking for someone who will continue to improve on this success. Our students enjoy Drama and there is a strong tradition of performance at the school. The faculty is ambitious and forward looking - with the aim of making all students into confident individuals and the performers of the future.

Our School:
Polam Hall School is a 4 - 16 all-through academy and is part of Woodard Academies Trust. We have 750 pupils on roll, with two forms of entry in our Primary Phase and three forms in our Secondary Phase. Polam Hall is a school with a unique and long history which today is proud to be a fully comprehensive school serving the young people of Darlington. Our mission is to educate the whole child, developing leadership, compassion, character and academic ambition, through the combination of our Academic and Concordia Crescimus curricula. We have high expectations and aspirations for every member of our school community.

Polam Hall is a community where staff and students work together for common goals. We make every effort to develop our staff team, offering professional development opportunities and the chance to be part of a wider Trust, yet retaining the friendly atmosphere of a small school. We are looking for energetic and enthusiastic people to join our team, who have children at the heart of their practice and who will help us to drive forward our aim: to deliver an outstanding education to every single one of our pupils.

Visits to the school are welcome and can be arranged by contacting Angela Walker, Executive PA to The Principal, by email to walker.a@phs.woodard.co.uk

To apply please visit our website www.phs.woodard.co.uk and from the drop down menu click on Our School and scroll down to Working at Polam Hall.

Please note you should use the supporting statement section of the application form to clearly evidence your ability to meet the requirements outlined in the person specification. The information in this section will be used to shortlist applicants for the role and therefore it is important that you provide enough detail to give a full picture of your skills and experience and what you can contribute to teaching and learning at Polam Hall.

Polam Hall School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Safer recruitment practice and pre-employment checks will be undertaken before any appointment is confirmed. This post is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
