The Service
The Learning and Skills Service (LSS) Employability team deliver employment and skills support to people across Northumberland to move them towards employment. Currently, the Employability team deliver The DWP Work and Health Programme, Generation North East and an Triage Employment service as part of the Covid-19 Northumberland Response Programme. The Business and Employment Advisor will work primarily on the DWP Work and Health Programme and DWP JETS programmes. You will work alongside LSS staff including Employment Coaches and LSS Tutors and with other Council services supporting residents to take up employment and training opportunities.

The role
The primary function of the role is to source sustainable employment opportunities for programme participants within the local employer market, ensuring service levels exceed employers’ expectations.

Participants on programmes will be newly unemployed and many will have recent work experience, but some may also have health-related issues or need support to access new employment opportunities. You will have the ability to identify new business opportunities and convert opportunities effectively, explaining fully job roles and expectations to participants on the programme.

The successful candidate will:
Build and maintain strong and effective relationships with new and existing employers to identify and generate job vacancies ( virtually, on the telephone and face to face)

Support a small caseload of participants with employability and in-work support

Work with Employment Coaches and other staff to ensure candidates are appropriately matched to employer vacancies and prepared for an interview

Manage a comprehensive recruitment offer and process to meet business need and contract outcomes

We are looking for an individual who has the drive and enthusiasm to make a positive impact on the labour market prospects of residents who are now being impacted by the Covid 19 lockdown and subsequent economic downturn. It is essential to have a clear and full understanding of the local labour market and the support available to residents through existing programmes and services. You should have experience of building and cultivating excellent working relationships with employers, colleagues and participants and stakeholders. Proven experience of supporting workless people into employment, excellent customer service skills and a performance-driven approach to meeting targets are essential.

The post will be managed by Northumberland Council’s Learning and Skills team, working agilely across and the ability to travel locally and regionally.

- A starting salary of £24,313 (Salary range is £24,313 - £26,999)
