An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Temporary Accommodation Officer who will work within the Council’s Housing Options Team to coordinate the provision of temporary accommodation to homeless households as defined within the Housing Act 1996, Part VII.

The focus of the role is to work with homeless households accommodated into temporary accommodation to assist their move to suitable settled accommodation. The successful applicant will also be responsible for creating and maintaining partnerships with providers of temporary accommodation to ensure that the necessary level of accommodation is available. You will develop robust support plans and deliver these to households in temporary accommodation to facilitate move on to settled accommodation. You will gather case information from applicants and work with both the Homelessness Reduction Officers and the Tenancy Sustainment Officer to assist with the assessment of homeless applicants and to identify and provide ongoing support when required.

You will be the first point of contact with households residing in temporary accommodation in all matters relating to the offer of a property to those customers with more complex needs to ensure tenancy sustainment (e.g. Housing Benefit advice, financial capability and support etc) and to actively involve the Housing Service to ensure all relevant information and support is in place to sustain the tenancy at signup.

The post will also be key in delivering the Council’s Homeless Prevention Strategy to ensure the provision of suitable temporary accommodation for those who require it.

Applicants will have:
Applicants should have experience of working with homeless applicants or a support related service, have a good understanding of the Homeless Reduction Act 2017 and have experience, and a passion for supporting vulnerable people to enable them to enhance their lives within independent living.

You will also be required to have experience of creating partnerships with providers of temporary accommodation and private landlords with a good track record of providing and delivering effective solutions for housing, vulnerable people and homeless people particularly regarding the use of temporary accommodation.
