The Council’s Business Gateshead team works to attract, retain and develop business in the borough in order to create more and better employment opportunities for local people.

The team works with partners to create an environment in which businesses can start-up, locate, invest, grow and create jobs in Gateshead leading on the development of initiatives to stimulate private sector investment, entrepreneurialism, competitiveness, innovation and productivity.

The post holder will manage The Growth Fund, an investment programme of up to £4.5m to support SMEs across Gateshead, Sunderland and South Tyneside to stimulate business growth and create employment. It will foster innovative processes to drive productivity, resulting in increased profitability, wage growth and employment growth in SME’s, strengthening our economy and creating better jobs.

The project is receiving up to £4.5m of funding from the England European Regional Development Fund as part of the European Structural and Investment Funds Growth Programme 2014-2020.

Gateshead Council will be the accountable body and is awaiting a decision on the funding that would allow this appointment to be made. The post holder will work alongside UMi, the Council’s delivery partner.

You will be able to demonstrate specialist knowledge of European funding including financial management, monitoring and evaluation and business support, including the role of public sector funding and SME operations. You will be expected to be qualified to degree level or demonstrate an equivalent level of knowledge.

Experience of managing European funded projects, including project mobilisation and procurement processes is essential. You will be able to demonstrate self-motivation and business acumen and have experience of working flexibly, in partnership, using a range of communication skills and using CRM systems and ICT packages.
