Locations within Sunderland Council.

Sunderland City Council has worked collaboratively with its partners and the DfE to establish Together for Children – Sunderland, the organisation responsible for delivering Children’s Services since 1 April 2017.

Together for Children recognises and values the contribution and diversity of Educational Psychology and seeks to expand this resource by appointing an innovative, talented and enthusiastic, team-oriented practitioner. You will join the Service at a time of national transition when systems and interventions are adapting and responding to educational and psychological challenges linked to the impact of COVID 19 for children, young people, families and local educational settings.
The service encourages and supports flexible, creative thinking to develop new solutions aimed at enhancing the educational achievement and wellbeing of children and young people with special educational needs. We deliver a well-received commissioned Service Level Agreement to schools and other settings and provide expertise into established integrated pathways for Early Years and Emotional Health teams. In response to demand we are seeking to expand the capacity of the team and the breadth of expertise. We would welcome interest from candidates who have specialist knowledge, skills or interest linked to promoting ‘Preparation for Adulthood’ objectives and frameworks, across all ages and transition stages.

The Educational Psychology Service delivers effective child-centred, evidence based practice. This includes a commitment to providing relevant and purposeful assessments intrinsically linked to educational and psychological principles and research enabling and influencing outcomes which improve educational achievement and emotional wellbeing at all stages of developing independence.
In conjunction with all Statutory responsibilities you will be part of a team that delivers responsive commissioned services to schools and other settings. Scope exists to develop a rich, and diverse portfolio of activities. This will incorporate early intervention strategies, consultative approaches, psychometric investigation and therapeutic techniques to support children, young people and families using individual, group and organisational systems and processes. A desire to engage in research and development is expected of you to maintain high levels of service and personal growth.

The successful candidate can look forward to joining a small friendly, supportive team where individual growth and ambition is encouraged. We have excellent administrative support and opportunities for agile working. We offer an induction package plus supervision and peer support. Opportunities exist to engage in CPD activities which are flexible and person centred.

Sunderland is conveniently located for road, rail and air travel.

Candidates will possess an honours degree in psychology recognised by the British Psychological Society and a post graduate qualification in Educational Psychology. You will be required to be eligible for registration with the Health and Care Professions Council.
