Gateshead Music Service is looking to recruit an Assistant Manager: Primary Music Lead to start January 2021.

This is a managerial role within the Music Service, responsible for leading and developing music education in primary schools across Gateshead. You will lead on training and supporting teachers in schools and other settings with best practice pedagogy and through the development of inspiring teaching resources and curriculum.

You will have either several years’ experience in classroom teaching with a suitable higher level qualification and some instrumental specialism, or an instrumental specialist with a music degree or ability to perform at an equivalent standard on your main instrument and be at least grade 8 equivalent on subsidiary instruments offered. You must have substantial experience/evidence of working with Primary schools/Music Curriculum; managerial experience is also essential. At the heart of this role is a commitment to inclusion and an ability to support schools in diverse communities traditionally less well served than others.

You should be committed to supporting Gateshead Council policies around safeguarding, Quality Assurance and other Health and Safety procedures.

You will be paid on Soulbury pay points 1-4/7 on a 0.5 FTE (18.5 hours per week) contract, fixed term to 31 March 2021, with a year’s extension pending announcements of continued funding from DfE/Arts Council for Music Education Hubs.

We are seeking a committed individual with the skills to support progression of pupils at all stages of their musical development.

To apply visit the Councils Jobshop at www.gateshead.gov.uk/jobs and complete your application by Sunday 22nd November for interviews on or around Friday 4th December. Due to retirement of one of our staff members, we are seeking a start as early into January as possible.
