County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service (CDDFRS) is seeking to appoint a suitably qualified, enthusiastic and self-motivated Vehicle and Equipment Technician for a position in our Technical Service Centre based at Bowburn, Durham.

The Vehicle and Equipment Technician is a significant member of the Technical Service Centre which maintains and repairs the Fire Services vehicles and equipment. The post holder will be responsible for carrying out inspections, repairs and maintenance to all Fire Service vehicles and equipment including the emergency fleet, support vehicles, ladders and rescue equipment.

The applicant must hold a current full driving licence, a LGV Category C + E is preferable but not essential. Knowledge of vehicle electrics, automatic transmissions, hydraulics and small plant would be an advantage. The post holder may also be required to participate in a standby scheme to cover nights and weekends on a rota system, for which you will receive additional payment.

Skills and experience required of a Vehicle and Equipment Technician:

• Significant experience in the repair and maintenance of commercial vehicles.
• A professional motor vehicle qualification.
• Up to date knowledge of modern commercial vehicles and cars. Vehicle and Equipment Technician
• Able to diagnose and repair vehicle faults to a high standard.
• Competence in dealing with modern vehicle electrical systems.
• Commitment to teamwork and flexibility.

In return the post offers 26 days annual leave rising to 31 days after 5 years, provision of uniform and work ware, sports facilities, car parking and a pension scheme.
