Further Information
“This is Redcar and Cleveland. We are an ambitious council keen to build on our strong track record of innovation and partnership working, ensuring that we create a flourishing future for the borough and all of its residents. Key to this is a committed workforce who always gives their best. Offering a fast paced, progressive working environment, Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council is a great career move.”

The Adults & Communities Directorate consists of three strands, Adult Social Care, Community Development, and Public Health. Our aims are to continue to provide essential and highly valued services and to build capacity to enable local communities to make lasting change, improve quality of life and prosperity. As a directorate we lead on developing a culture of co-operation and co-production, respecting and nurturing the skills and talents of local people and enabling them to fulfil their potential.

You’ve Got This, the South Tees Local Delivery Pilot funded by Sport England, has established itself as a driving force for change. It has built strong relationships with communities and key actors around a value of physical activity and active living that is crucial to achieve long term change in the quality of people’s lives. Central to this movement is collaboration, engagement, insight, collective leadership, developing trust and common purpose. The coronavirus pandemic has had a significant impact on our area and its communities, and we are responding with a stronger sense of purpose and commitment to tackling health inequalities within them.

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic charismatic and highly motivated individual with a passion for reducing inequalities and improving health and wellbeing. South Tees (Redcar & Cleveland and Middlesbrough) is one of Sport England’s twelve Pilot areas developing a radical, ambitious and ground-breaking approach to reduce inactivity and increase physical activity through whole system change.

You will provide high profile, visible and effective leadership for the development of the Pilot, within which a key role is to build a value of active living and physical activity at both an individual, organisational and policy level, working closely alongside local leaders, stakeholders and Sport England. You will manage the overall development and implementation of the Pilot seeking to maximise outcomes for local people through guiding and supporting the delivery of specific initiatives by partners.

You will have a proven track record of strategic leadership, developing positive relationships and operational management in a dynamic and challenging environment, with demonstrable experience of setting up and operating in high level partnerships across multisectoral settings. You will need to demonstrate excellent knowledge of local, regional and national challenges from a public health perspective and understanding of systems approaches. In addition, you will have a passion for Asset Based Community Development and co-production with communities and agencies to promote health, wellbeing and resilience.

If you feel that you have the skills and attributes for this position, then we would like to hear from you. The Pilot is being led by Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council in partnership with Middlesbrough Council. The employer for the post will be Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council and you will be seconded to Middlesbrough Environment City, a local sustainability charity, in line with the Pilot’s distributed leadership model.

For an informal discussion on this role please contact Fran Anderson, Assistant Director for Health and Communities on 01642 771557.

The council holds ambassador status for the North East Better Health at Work Award.

We offer very attractive terms and conditions of employment, including generous annual leave entitlement, flexible working hours (where appropriate), membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme and access to numerous other salary sacrifice schemes and staff benefits/discounts, including a lease car scheme.

The authority is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children/young people and vulnerable adults. We expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment and an enhanced disclosure & barring service check (DBS) will be sought.
