Further Information
Sunderland City Council’s Community Therapy Service seeks to recruit Occupational Therapists to work in two developing areas of service.

The council is committed to its agenda of promoting technology enabled care and Occupational Therapists play a key role in identifying opportunities to apply the use of assistive technology in care planning in order to promote safety and personal independence.

There is an exciting opportunity for an Occupational Therapist based in the community therapy teams to work in alignment with Sunderland Care and Support, a trading company of the council, to develop creative care plans, blending technology with more traditional care and support services.

The post holder will establish a caseload of adults and children living in their own homes in the community and in other community settings. Supervision will be provided by a Team Manager in the Community Therapy Service and the post holder will work closely with the Business Manager for Assistive Technology in Sunderland Care and Support, therapy and social work colleagues in community and acute settings.

The council is also developing a new offering for adults living in care homes across the city, with sponsorship from the Primary Care Network. There is an opportunity for two Occupational Therapists to deliver proactive and preventative Occupational Therapy for care home residents both on admission, and throughout the duration of their care home stay.

The post holders will work as part of a team with Physiotherapists under the supervision of a Team Manager in the Community Therapy Service, creating relationships with care providers in the city, developing an understanding of the needs of individual care homes and residents and providing proactive therapeutic interventions to promote good health and wellbeing. The team may also provide responsive services where care homes identify unexpected changes in function or presentation of individual residents.
