With just a few weeks to go until election day (6 May 2021), Northumberland County Council are looking to recruit a number of election staff including presiding officers, clerks and counting assistants. This is an excellent opportunity to see local democracy in action!

Anyone can apply for the roles and you only need to meet a few requirements.

To undertake election duties, you must:
- Be at least 18 years of age before 27th April 2021
- Be entitled to work in the UK (in accordance with the provisions of the Asylum and Immigration Act 1996)
Polling and count staff must not work on behalf of a candidate during an election campaign, nor be related to a prospective candidate.

Full training will be provided, and don’t worry if you haven’t worked at an election before, you will be fully supported by experienced staff.

Roles
You can earn some extra cash by applying for the below available roles and get involved in the effort on election day and beyond:

- Polling Station Staff (Presiding Officers and Poll Clerks) across Northumberland.

- Postal Vote Opening Staff, with all sessions taking place at Blyth Sports Centre on:
Tuesday 27th April, 10am till finish
Wednesday 28th April, 10am till finish
Friday 30th April, 10am till finish
Tuesday 4th May, 10am till finish
Wednesday 5th May, 10am till finish
Thursday 6th May, day 12noon till 6pm & evening 7pm till finish.
Above time are subject to change.

- Verification and Count Staff, with all sessions taking place at Blyth Sports Centre on:
Thursday 6th May, commencing at 10pm till finish.
Friday 7th May, day. Time to be confirmed.
Saturday 8th May, day. Time to be confirmed.

Rates of Pay
Presiding Officer - £292.16 (includes training & mileage allowance)
Poll Clerk - £196.80 (includes training & mileage allowance)
Postal Vote Opening Assistant - Day £10.30 per hour. Evening £12.88 per hour
Verification/Count Assistant - Day £12.56 per hour. Evening £18.26 per hour
