Further Information
We are seeking to recruit a Child and Family Social Worker to join our Safeguarding and Care Planning Service. Job profiles are aligned to the Knowledge and Skills Statement for social workers and the salary offer reflects the calibre of applicant we are looking to attract. The successful applicant will join a highly effective and motivated team who are committed to continuous improvement following our 'good' Ofsted judgement in May 2019.

We are looking for a social work practitioner who firmly believes in the power of strength-based and relational social work, who can address behaviours linked to adult and childhood trauma and compromised child/parental relationships.

We have recently promoted four of our Social Workers to the Role of Consultant Social Workers. This is how they describe working in Gateshead Safeguarding & Care Planning:

The Safeguarding and Care Planning teams are each made up of social workers who develop close relationships with each other. Supportive team work is essential and we do this through regular Unit Meetings, sharing ideas, knowledge and learning with each other and facilitating collaborative team discussion. Our team managers commit regular time to each of us and they know our individual needs and caseloads well. Managerial and peer support is really strong in Safeguarding and this is seen in the way that we communicate with each other and work together within our teams.

There are lots of opportunities offered to Safeguarding social workers in Gateshead and progressing in your own career is very much encouraged. You will have the opportunity to complete specialist training – including but not limited to PAMS, AIM assessments, systemic practice, therapeutic life story work, trauma informed practice and many others. We also hold regular hour-long training slots, Practice Shorts, that enable us to share our learning with each other across the service. Our workplace is one where actively expanding your own knowledge and skills as a social worker is the norm, and this has a consistently positive impact on the families that we work with as we are able to provide up-to-date, evolving support using the latest theory and research.

Gateshead CAN is our practice model; it emphasises the positive, strengths-based, purposeful, creative and can-do attitude that underpins our Social Work practice and our wider organisational commitment to Social Work practice. This is strongly embedded within our Safeguarding teams, where we focus on the systemic, relational social work we can do to improve the lives of vulnerable children and families in Gateshead.

Our aim is to achieve the best possible outcomes for our children and young people. Our Safeguarding and Care Planning Service has a strong and stable workforce, who tell us that they enjoy working for Gateshead. Our staff offer includes a range of training and development opportunities to equip workers with the tools to achieve the highest standard of practice. Our culture recognises the value of our staff by supporting social workers through reflective supervision, accessibility to senior managers and manageable caseloads.

It is essential that applicants have a current driving licence and access to a car or means to mobility support.

As an employee of Gateshead Council, you will receive a generous annual leave package (increasing after 5 years), be a member of the Tyne & Wear Pensions Fund and be eligible to access a range of employee benefits such as the child-care benefit scheme and annual leave purchase scheme as well as a variety of staff offers and discounts.

If successful you will be required to apply for an enhanced disclosure.

During the selection process candidates will be assessed against the Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities as set out in the job profile.

For an informal discussion about the working at Gateshead you are welcome to contact one of our Consultant Social Workers, Kate Aspray on 0191 4332539 or Ben Hooper 0191 4332598
