About Us:

We have an exciting opportunity for the role of a Hydrant Technician within our Operations Department based at Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service Headquarters.

This role will involve inspecting, maintaining and servicing statutory fire hydrants in line with the National Guidance procedures relating to the provision of water for firefighting.

About the role:

We are recruiting a Hydrant Technician who will be responsible for inspecting and maintaining fire hydrants, reporting defects and carrying out minor repairs.

Candidates should be self-motivated and have a proactive approach to work with the ability to plan, prioritise and manage workloads. They will also need to have good attention to detail and be IT literate including use of Microsoft Word and Excel.

The successful applicant will be provided with a Service vehicle to travel throughout the Tyne and Wear area, locating, inspecting and where necessary maintaining and carrying out minor repairs to fire hydrants. This is an outdoors, all year round role so applicants must be able to work in all weather. The role is physically demanding so the applicant should be physically fit and able to work unsupervised. There will be a need to operate on the public highway and pavement areas so a good knowledge of health and safety is essential.

The successful candidate will be required to undertake training and courses in accordance with the requirements of the role.

This full time, permanent role will be Monday to Friday and will follow the Services’ Flexible working pattern. All new employees will have an initial 6 month probationary period.
