The role
Northumberland County Council are looking for a skilled individual to assist in the delivery of our high quality IT Support SLA. The role will be predominantly based in schools along the Tyne valley with the opportunity to work anywhere within the county also available.

Applicants should have considerable experience within the IT sector preferably with some of that time spent in education. The job involves working with multiple stakeholders across many sites and exemplary soft skills are mandatory. The successful candidate will join an established team within authority and will have access to colleagues who can assist where necessary.

The post requires in depth knowledge of Microsoft’s server OS including its component services, along with experience in, but not limited to, Antivirus, Software Patching, Safeguarding software and Internet Filtering. Knowledge of Google’s GSuite would be of added benefit.

Duties and key result areas:
Good knowledge of the Microsoft Portfolio of products to include: Word, Excel, Exchange/Outlook and Access.
Able to support the installation and maintenance of servers utilising Windows OS and provide support to a moderately complex level.
Knowledge of communications networks, predominantly utilising CISCO equipment. Understanding of Voice over IP(VOIP) technologies and their implementation across the Council’s telephone network.
Knowledge of Internet technologies, the use of filtering software and hardware, anti-virus products and an appreciation of network security issues.
Knowledge of databases and server systems, their place in the market and their implementation at the Council.
Backup, Recovery and Security technologies and their use at the Council.
Carries out fault diagnosis relating to moderately complex problems, reporting the results of such diagnosis in a clear and concise manner. Installs or removes hardwareand/or software, using supplied installation instructions and tools. Follows agreed standards, having an understanding of external factors that may influence theindividuals work including electrical work and potential health and safety issues. Agrees the timing of the work with those affected e.g. users, operations management,including, where appropriate, hand-over to client.
Good knowledge of Google's GSuite and it's use in an education setting.
An understanding of the importance of internet filtering in an education setting.
