We are seeking experienced and enthusiastic an Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) to join our Mental Health Social Work Teams. This is an exciting opportunity to join our dynamic and forward-thinking Adult Social Care service.

The AMHP role provides assessment, care planning and support to adults with care and support needs in Redcar and Cleveland. Our AMHPs undertake Mental Health Act assessments on a duty rota, carry a reduced complex caseload and support less experienced staff within our teams.

Central to the role of the AMHP is the ability to make sound legal decisions around the use of compulsory powers in a way that is both lawful and promotes the autonomy of the individual, while safeguarding the person, the family and the wider public. The role requires flexibility and strong partnership working with other agencies and professionals, and you will be able to work well across organisational boundaries to achieve the best outcomes for individuals with mental health needs.

We harness a Reablement and Independence approach to improving the lives of adults and their carers; and we are dedicated to ensuring we deliver the best service to those who need our help. It is essential that you have the ability to analyse information, assess risk and levels of need in line with eligibility criteria and relevant legislation.

At times our AMHPs can find themselves working beyond office hours as they keep the welfare of the individual at the centre of their considerations. When this happens we offer a choice between taking time back or being paid overtime, whichever suits your individual circumstances best.

Our workforce is our greatest asset, and we provide excellent management and professional support to our AMHPs with an experienced AMHP Lead and AMHP Team Managers. We have excellent legal support, and we are committed to ongoing high-quality training and development for our AMHPs including AMHP refresher training, a dedicated AMHP forum and individual supervision. We have flexible working arrangements to ensure our staff have a good work-life balance.

Applicants will need:
• a formal qualification in social work
• registration with Social Work England
• post graduate certificate as an Approved Mental Health Professional
• experience of undertaking MHA assessments with approval by a local authority.
• the ability to produce high-quality assessments and written reports
• a working knowledge of relevant legislation relating to adult social work and mental health
• strong interpersonal, communication and organisational skills
• the ability to work within a team.

Desirable:
• a current driving licence and access to a car.
