We are re-structuring our Corporate Commissioning and Procurement service and have vacancies for Category Leads.

The Council are looking for an experienced individual who can motivate both the team reporting to them, and officers from a wide range of services, to secure maximum value from the Gateshead £.

Our Category Lead will develop expertise within a category area to understand markets and seek new opportunities. The Category Lead will undertake a comprehensive analysis of Council spend, develop outcomes, oversee the delivery of a category work plan and ensure that all intended outcomes are delivered and the appropriate procurement processes are undertaken to achieve targeted savings and policy outcomes.

Reporting to the Procurement Manager, you will supervise a small team of Procurement Officers, working with minimum supervision and able to manage competing priorities within a complex and varied workload.

You will have experience of category and contract management including supplier relationship development. Developing effective relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders

You will have an understanding the impact procurement has on the local economy and experience in maximising commercial benefits realisation, through developing new ways of working, managing markets and suppliers.

You will have experience of leading multi-functional cross-organisational teams, undertaking focused and accurate analysis of complex data and presenting to a variety of audiences.

You will have good interpersonal skills, including strong leadership, motivation, communication, team working, relationship building, influencing and persuasion skills and constructively challenging where appropriate.

You will have knowledge of procurement legislation, Social Value legislation and carbon reduction.

You will hold MCIPS, and/or CIPS level 6 Professional Diploma in Procurement and Supply or equivalent (or to be working towards level 6 Professional Diploma in Procurement and Supply). You will also have relevant IT, analytical and numeracy skills to the post. As a part of this role you will be required to undertake an apprenticeship qualification in Management to level 5 (unless you already hold an equivalent qualification) please see link below for further information.
