Gateshead Council is looking for an experienced solicitor/barrister whose knowledge, skills and experience will help its litigation team to provide high quality and effective legal advice and support across the Council’s function. The role sits within the Council’s Legal and Democratic Service which provides support to a wide range of services across the organisation to make Gateshead a place where everyone thrives. The Service is a dynamic and inclusive one, committed to supporting outcomes that deliver positive outcomes for the people of Gateshead.
You will have a minimum of 2 years PQE in handling prosecutions and ideally licensing / regulatory matters; and will support the Litigation Manager, including working closely with the Council’s public protection and enforcement teams.

You will have a minimum of 2 years PQE in a relevant discipline. You will have strong organisational skills and be used to working to deadlines. You will be able to provide complex legal advice to senior client officers. You will also have experience of advocacy and/or advising Committees; and will work closely with elected Members.
