Gateshead Council is looking for an experienced solicitor/barrister whose knowledge, skills and experience will help its commercial team to provide high quality and effective legal advice and support across the Council’s functions. The role sits within the Council’s Legal and Democratic Service which provides support to a wide range of services across the organisation to make Gateshead a place where everyone thrives. The Service is a dynamic and inclusive one, committed to supporting outcomes that deliver positive outcomes for the people of Gateshead.

The position will support the Planning, Property & Projects Manager, handling planning and highways matters working closely with the Council’s Development Management, Traffic Management & Engineering teams.

The successful candidate will have a minimum of 2 years PQE in a relevant discipline. You will have strong organisational skills and be used to working to deadlines. You will be able to provide complex legal advice to senior client officers. The successful candidate will also have experience of advocacy and/or advising Committees; and will work closely with elected Members.
