Further Information
Have you ever considered the stories behind the journeys on our transport network each day; and how a future network can unleash the potential of a region and its people? At Transport North East our role is to develop those future plans and secure the investment to deliver them.

We’re looking for someone able to support the development of our region’s future strategy for metro and rail in line with the ambition of our regional transport plan. Transport North East strategies go beyond just the transport mode, at their heart, they consider how we can make our region greener, more prosperous and healthier. You need an eye for the needs of customers too, for this strategy to succeed rail needs to become an attractive alternative to the car.

As the strategy develops you will need to work with technical experts contracted to develop new metro and rail schemes for our region; and consider how you can take the ideas and initiatives outlined in the strategy forward to be realised which will mean helping to make the case to government and other potential funders for schemes.

For passengers and freight, Transport North East oversees strategic transport planning at a regional level on behalf of the North East Joint Transport Committee, representing the seven local authorities in our region; and always striving to make our vision evermore real: “Moving to a green, healthy, dynamic and thriving North East”.

This role involves work with partners so you will be required to confidently and competently network outside the core Transport North East team. You’ll need to be a good listener too: all of our partners have distinct needs which you need to take the time to understand.

Critically, you will have the ability to consider economic, technical, demand and financial reports which you will appraise to inform your work. Documents you produce will be read by influential stakeholders including regional politicians, transport operators and government departments, so we insist on exemplary writing skills. Why not join us on the Transport North East journey?

This role will report to the Head of Heavy Rail.
