Further Information
We are seeking to recruit an experienced Senior Practice Supervisor (Team Manager) to our
ASYE Academy . This is a new and exciting venture and the successful applicant will play a key role in developing the offer for Newly qualified Social Workers in Gateshead.

It is essential that you have a Social Work qualification or equivalent, post qualifying training and be registered with the Social Work England (SWE).

We are looking to appoint a Senior Practice Supervisor to lead, manage and support a small team of Newly Qualified Social Workers through their assessed year and to co-ordinate the learning, development and assessment of other NQSW’s across the service. The Academy team manager will facilitate a learning culture where individual workers are recognised for the experience they bring to the job as well as providing challenges to develop their social work identity and autonomy and learn from good practice. The successful candidate will provide case and reflective supervision and will be responsible for the assessment of the NQSWs within the team and will support the completion of the ASYE portfolio. The role will also involve coordinating the learning and development of the other NQSW’s across the service by facilitating group supervision/unit meetings and supporting the host team managers to ensure that NQSW have optimal learning opportunities and ASYE portfolio evidence is of the highest standard service wide.

The successful applicant will have significant experience of practicing statutory childcare social work in a multi-disciplinary setting and managing Social Workers. We expect applicants to have demonstrable skills in delivering interventions with complex families, the ability to analyse and evaluate risk and feel comfortable in making justifiable professional decisions whilst working with reasonable levels of autonomy.

We expect the knowledge base of applicants to demonstrate expert understanding of social work legislation, family court processes and statutory guidance, assessment and social work methodologies, including systemic and relational approaches. The successful candidate will be empathic, enabling and resilient with a ‘can do’, solution-focussed approach.

The Children and Families Social Work Service benefits from a strong and stable workforce, a supportive culture, accessible and involved senior managers and a commitment to professional and personal development.

Our Ofsted inspection in 2019 led to an overall “good” judgement. The experiences and progress of children who need help and protection was also rated as “good”.

You must be committed to promoting Equality and Diversity, have a proven ability to provide reflective supervision, think systematically, effectively challenge and influence Social Work Practitioners, whilst guiding them to seek evidence-based conclusions with the child’s welfare as paramount. It is also essential that you can demonstrate that you have developed strategies to engender a culture of productivity and learning.

As an employee you would receive a generous annual leave package, be a member of the Tyne & Wear Pensions Fund and be eligible to access a range of employee benefits such as the flexi time scheme, child care benefit scheme, annual leave purchase scheme as well as a variety of staff offers and discounts.

It is essential that you have a current driving licence and access to a car or means to mobility support.
