Further Information
TWAM is a major regional museum, art gallery and archives service. We are supported by the four local authorities in Tyneside and Newcastle University. We are also a National Portfolio Organisation funded by Arts Council England. We hold collections of international importance in archives, art, science and technology, archaeology, military and social history, fashion and natural sciences; and our 200 staff and 500 volunteers use a collection of over 1 million museum objects and 20km of archives to deliver this work.

The Development Team at TWAM is responsible for raising funds and enabling our supporters to keep up to date with the impact of their generosity. By joining the team, you will help to achieve this, ensuring TWAM’s continued success in every aspect of work that you do. Through your work managing the database you will enable TWAM and the team to understand and build relationships with our current and future donor community. This is an exciting moment for anyone wishing to join the Development Team.

The relatively newly established Development Team (2018) is keen to fulfil an ambitious fundraising strategy and work to bring TWAM through the impact covid has had on our museums and galleries. This involves working across a portfolio of projects, programmes (such as our award-winning Learning & Engagement programmes), regular giving schemes and membership, exhibitions (such as Lindisfarne Gospels 2022), annual appeals and partnerships.

We are looking to recruit a Database and Research Officer to join our development team at, what is an exciting and challenging time for the cultural sector. This role is crucial in supporting the administration associated with TWAM’s fundraising efforts, effective and efficient use of fundraising and financial data, working across the team and with colleagues across the organisation.

The Database and Research Officer is an integral part of the team’s functionality, and will work to ensure that the database and associated reporting systems and processes that underpin fundraising are maintained and supported to provide practical insights and infrastructure to ensure the effective stewardship of donors. TWAM recently integrated Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge NXT in early 2020 and keen to ensure best practice and effective fundraising and communication is managed from the data we collect and care for.

You should have strong organisational skills and be a flexible, team player with ability to multitask and work to deadlines. You should also be proficient in using database software to analyse, monitor and manage data and have strong analytical experience and research skills. Experience of working within in or in conjunction with a fundraising team is also required.

Good oral and written communication skills are essential, as is the ability to deal with people at all levels in the organisation, as our database works across TWAM. You should also be computer literate with a strong working knowledge of MS office/teams and database software packages. Experience of Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge NXT is desirable.
