Abbey Hill Academy is part of Horizons Specialist Academy Trust, which is at the forefront of current developments in the education of young people with special needs. The school
specialises in meeting the needs of students aged 11 to 19 who have a wide range of learning and physical disabilities.

The Academy Trust seeks to recruit a teacher who has the ability, commitment and resilience to be an outstanding practitioner working at Abbey Hill Academy with secondary students who have profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD). The right candidate will be an enthusiastic and inspirational teacher who has high expectations of children and of him/herself. Ideally, the candidate will have experience of teaching and supporting pupils with profound and multiple learning difficulties in both group and individual situations. Experience of constructing and implementing a pre formal curriculum, care plans, and risk assessments is also required.

We are looking for an enthusiastic educationalist who is passionate about working with young people with a wide range of needs and who is keen to ensure that all pupils achieve their potential. A patient, calm and resilient nature and a resolve to make a real difference to the lives of children are essential attributes.

We offer a collaborative and supportive professional environment where staff are valued and nurtured. Your input, enthusiasm and talents will be welcomed and appreciated as you join us on our journey towards increased quality of provision and ground breaking innovation. The candidate must be a good team player who is also able to lead a team of teaching assistants under the direction of the senior teacher responsible.

Applications are welcome from newly qualified or experienced teachers from either primary or secondary SEND backgrounds. As well as good communication and interpersonal skills, the successful candidate will have proven ability to work as part of a team of teachers and support staff as well as the flexibility and willingness to lead a fully immersive pre formal curriculum for each individual student in their care.

Although there is a requirement that all our staff may work across the Trust as necessary, this post will primarily involve teaching at our Abbey Hill Academy site.

A visit to the school is highly recommended. To arrange this and/or to obtain an application form and further information please e-mail Mrs Julie Povall on: Julie.povall@horizonstrust.org.uk; or telephone 01642 677113

Completed application forms should be returned by 12 noon on Friday 24th September to: Julie Povall, HR Clerk, Abbey Hill Academy, Ketton Road, Stockton-On-Tees. TS19 8BU or by email to Julie.povall@horizonstrust.org.uk.
