Further Information

Gateshead Council currently teaches over 4000 children to swim per week across its three swimming pools and we are looking to recruit enthusiastic and self-motivated swimming teachers to join our team at our three swimming pools: Dunston Leisure Centre, Blaydon Leisure Centre, Heworth Leisure Centre.

As part of the role you will be expected to plan, deliver and evaluate swimming lessons and provide regular feedback to swimmers and parents to help them achieve their personal goals.

Our evening and weekend lessons run 50 weeks per year and our school lessons run 37 weeks per year.  We are currently embarking on a programme of growth of our learn to swim programme and particularly require teachers who are able to work on weekday evenings 15:45-20:15.

Initially being taken on as a casual employee, once in the casual bank you will be eligible to apply for contracted hours as and when they become available.  There are expected to be over 70 teaching hours being added to the programme over the coming months in addition to hours being made available from existing teachers who move on.

You must hold a Level 2 Swimming Teacher certificate (ASA/Swim England or STA). Training may be available for these qualifications, so if you believe this is the career path for you and are available to work on evenings please get in touch.

Hourly rate is GBP 11.81 - GBP 12.47 + a 15% market supplement (to be reviewed annually) plus holiday pay.

If successful you will have to apply for an enhanced Disclosure.

For more information or to discuss training opportunties please contact Lee Gunning on LeeGunning@gateshead.gov.uk or 0191 433 5779.
