Further Information
We are looking for an Education and Engagement Officer who is experienced in developing and managing education and training programmes for a variety of audiences including school children and young people.  You will work 22.5 hours until 30 June 2026.

WHAT IS INVOLVED?
Adders Up is a new three-year National Lottery Heritage Funded project with the following principal activities:
  • Locate adder ‘hotspots’ by engaging audiences new to wildlife recording, including the public, farmers & visitors, plus our extensive social media and volunteer networks.
  • Counter the adders’ ‘bad press’ by engaging with schools, and using arts activities, press & social media to engage the public within & beyond the AONB.
  • Train volunteers to survey for critical hibernacula & feeding habitat for adders, using the information produced to engage with landowners, volunteers, and the scientific community.
  • Secure land management for adders & connectivity of adder populations, prioritising the understanding & consent of landowners from the start. We will build & support ongoing, volunteer-led monitoring for adders and encourage the scientific research required to ensure the correct management decisions are made for adders across the North Pennines.
  • Disseminate our work & good practice development on land management, signage, social media messaging, education & arts engagement with networks such as ARGUK, The Wildlife Trusts, and with neighbouring & other protected landscapes.
We encourage you to contact Adam Millington, Biodiversity Lead via email at adam.millington@durham.gov.uk to arrange an informal discussion about the role and for access to the Q&A session below.
