SCALE C POINT 6 £16,306.46 (Actual Salary) - 30 hours per week term time only

Due to an increase in class numbers, we are seeking to appoint a Specialist Teaching Assistant on a fixed term contract. Applicants should have excellent interpersonal and social skills and be able to communicate effectively and empathetically with pupils, staff and parents. Applicants should also have proven team working and organisational skills and a confident but non-confrontational interpersonal style.

Holmwood School is a high performing Primary Special School for pupils who have Social, Emotional and Mental Health difficulties, ASD and complex needs. We value our position as a service for families of Middlesbrough and the Tees Valley. We are a fully inclusive school and have the expertise and flexibility to help children progress in all areas. The school is well known within the Local Authority for its innovative practices. It is highly valued by the partnerships with which it works. In addition, the school runs a successful Extended Services provision from its Community Space for Sports and Arts.

Our committed and highly skilled staff work in a challenging but rewarding and supportive environment.

Candidates must be enthusiastic, flexible, and comfortable working with children who are vulnerable and who can challenge. Additional training will be provided for working with/supporting children who have Social, Emotional and Mental Health difficulties, ASD and complex needs. Full training will be provided in Behavioural Management and Learning Support.

This would be an excellent opportunity for someone who is looking to start or develop their career as a Specialist Teaching Assistant.

The appointed person should have a minimum qualification of NVQ Level 2 and possess good Literacy and Numeracy skills (at least GCSE Grade C Maths and English or an equivalent).

Visits will be arranged for short-listed candidates only. Applicants are encouraged to contact school to discuss the role with the Headteacher.

We operate an Equal Opportunities Policy, and particularly wish to emphasise that this post is equally suitable for men and women.

Holmwood School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. We expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment and an Enhanced DBS disclosure will be sought.
