Vice Principal - Pastoral
Leadership 19-23
Permanent
Full Time

The Trustees are seeking to appoint an inspirational Vice Principal for Excelsior Academy who will share Excelsior’s ambition to become an outstanding school and play an integral role in moving the Academy forward. The successful candidate will possess the vision, experience and commitment to enable the entire academy community to achieve this goal together. This important post has been created as part of a realignment of responsibilities across the Senior Leadership Team and to reflect the strategic priorities of the academy as we continue on our improvement journey.

Our focus on school climate has an emphasis on positive relationships and developing young people who are ready to thrive in their next steps. Our new Vice Principal will be committed to inclusive practice and be prepared to innovate in developing the very best support for all of our students. Whilst this post will largely have a secondary focus, they will be passionate about the journey from Early Years to 19 and the development of children and young people.

Excelsior Academy was opened in 2008 and became the first All Through school in Newcastle, offering education to pupils from 3 to 19 years of age. Excelsior serves a vibrant and diverse community across one of the most challenging contexts not only in the region, but also nationally. All pupils in our primary, secondary and sixth form provision have access to high quality teaching, exceptional facilities and fabulous resources. Our purpose-built building provides excellent facilities for the 1500+ pupils who study here. Approximately 200 pupils attend our primary school, 1100 in the secondary phase and 180 in the sixth form. We are a popular choice for our local community and are now oversubscribed in most year groups.

Excelsior is part of the Laidlaw Schools Trust (LST) established by our patron, Lord Laidlaw of Rothiemay, in 2008. LST prides itself on being a progressive, highly inclusive trust that supports every child to develop their talents whatever they may be. LST academies enjoy strong support from our experienced central and school improvement teams and every school shares the LST core values; ambitious, brave, curious, determined, extraordinary, fast and good.

Our new VP will be responsible for leading and managing a large and highly committed team of safeguarding leads, pastoral senior leaders, middle leaders and non-teaching pastoral support workers, including the inclusion and attendance teams, on all matters linked to safeguarding, pastoral care, behaviour and attitudes.
