Further Information
Whickham School is a high performing and over subscribed 11-18 school in Gateshead. Staff and students enjoy working and learning at our school and have created a culture that facilitates high levels of attainment and progress. Student progress is significantly above regional and national averages. The school has built an excellent reputation for the quality of provision for students and has made significant progress in becoming a place where students fulfil their potential. We want to recruit a colleague who demonstrates the ambition, drive and commitment to play a significant role in continuing this journey.

The school is seeking to recruit a Faculty Leader for PE and Health. The role has become available due to the promotion of the previous post holder to Assistant Headteacher.

The role of Faculty Leader is a senior position within Whickham School where the successful applicant will have the opportunity to:

• Lead a faculty of thirteen colleagues;

• Hold strategic and operational responsibility for a number of different curricular areas;

• Be a member of a Faculty Leadership Group that drives academic standards in the school;

• Coach and mentor colleagues in ensuring they are excellent practitioners.

This role is aimed at colleagues who are currently in, or have held, leadership positions. The role provides an excellent opportunity to develop and enhance skills in preparation for senior leadership.

To recruit and retain the highest calibre staff, the school offers a number of enhancements for colleagues. These include:

• A reduced teaching allocation. This helps facilitate collaborative planning where colleagues work together in enhancing the curriculum.

• Dedicated time is allocated to specialist teams to support subject specific pedagogy and development.

• High priority for admission of children of staff to the school.

• Access to school fitness facilities, including a gym.

• A number of salary sacrifice schemes. These relate to electric vehicles and bicycles.

• Access to a range of training programmes (including NPQ) to ensure professional development.

• A supportive environment where work/life balance issues are considered carefully.

Specific details regarding the role, faculty and skills and qualities that the successful candidate will need to demonstrate, are all available via the link on the school vacancies page or by visiting TES.

We welcome visits by prospective applicants to the school. Please contact Lloyd Wood (Deputy Headteacher) via email: lwood@whickhamschool.org if you wish to arrange a time to see the school.

Applications should be submitted by 9am on Thursday 14th March 2024

Whickham School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of students and young people, requiring all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We follow strict safeguarding policies, offer induction training, and require satisfactory enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service checks for all employees, following KCSIE guidelines, including online searches of applicants.
