Further Information
The North of Tyne Combined Authority (NTCA) is a partnership of three local authorities:
Newcastle, North Tyneside, and Northumberland, led by a directly elected Mayor and Cabinet. 2024 will see the wider North East region join an expanded Combined Authority, this will include Durham, Gateshead, South Tyneside and Sunderland.
Building on the success of NTCA we now have an even more exciting opportunity to help us lead the way in building a more inclusive, stronger economy in the North East.

This role will form part of the Communications & Marketing Team at the Combined Authority supporting various projects and programmes, specifically the Good Work Pledge.

ABOUT THE GOOD WORK PLEDGE
The North of Tyne is a great place to live, work and do business but, for too many, life is still a struggle and it’s time to change that. Many families that are ‘in’ work are also living in poverty, and it’s within all of our reach to do something about it, we need to act now to tackle this unfairness.

The way we work has changed, and many businesses are working hard to make sure their employees are happy, healthy, and well rewarded. However, on the flip side, there’s poor employment. Employment is where low pay, unreliable hours and minimal benefits are commonplace. Often these low paid jobs are done by the very people who keep us supplied with food, who look after our loved ones and keep us moving.

Our priority is to make poor employment a thing of the past, and Good Work the norm. Our Good Work Pledge aims to make this happen, a scheme that costs zero to employers, but where the rewards can be priceless.

Through this scheme the good can stand up and be counted, and others can get on the journey to making the necessary changes. Over time more of our residents will be able to access ‘good work’ as a result of this scheme.

THE ROLE
This is a key role as part of a team to support and deliver resources for employers of all sizes who have achieved or are working towards implementing a range of ‘good work’ best practice into their organisations.

A key function of this role is to deliver the Good Work Pledge ‘community.’ This is a critical next step in the evolution of the pledge, the successful applicant will fulfil this by planning, sourcing, curating and developing a valued online resource that’s enhanced by online and in-person events.

Essential in this process is engaging with accredited and emerging members, partner and stakeholder organisations to ensure delivery of relevant, high-quality content and resources made readily available within the necessary timescales in line with the pledge’s Five Pillars of Good Practice.

As a small team, success of the pledge is everyone’s responsibility, which means opportunities to engage with applicants new and existing should be optimised. Whether generated by marketing initiatives, email campaigns or self-generated it is essential the successful applicant can provide a high-quality customer centric collaborative approach. Our vision for the pledge is that it becomes the ultimate resource for employers wishing to improve or build knowledge around being a ‘good employer.’

The role will support the Good Work Pledge Project Lead in the development and subsequent roll out of the good work ‘community’ and occasionally the Programme Officer with pledge application processing and administration.  This will enable the continuous development of accredited and supporter members in the pursuit of providing ‘good work’ and ‘good jobs.’

In addition to the creation of a high-quality resource for employers, the role of the Communication, Engagement & Events Officer is to plan and delivery a range of in-person and online events, managing the curation and administration of these effectively and in line with our processes and procedures.

The successful candidate will be a proactive and dynamic self-starter who, who thrives on excellent communication with a wide range of people. It is essential the successful applicant can work with autonomy and initiate ideas that get things done. As part of a busy team, it is essential the post holder has good task, project and organisation skills including high levels of written and spoken communication skills that convey the benefits of the scheme, helping us reach key audiences e.g. small and medium size employers.

The successful candidate will be committed to making a real difference and will see, believe and be able to explain the value of the Good Work Pledge and its potential.

The Communication, Engagement & Events Officer role will play a key role in the scheme’s success. The role is instrumental in the next phase of the pledge’s future, providing a key resource and development opportunities for new and existing accredited members. Would you like to be part of something that changes people lives and makes the North East a better place to live, work and do business?

At NTCA, we don’t just accept difference, we celebrate it, we support it, and we thrive on it for the benefit of our team, our mission, and our residents. NTCA is proud to embrace diversity and equal opportunity in a serious way. We are committed to building a team that represents a variety of backgrounds, perspectives, and skills. The more inclusive we are, the better our work will be.

If you are interested in this opportunity, we would love to hear from you.
