We have a trainee opportunity for a period of 12 months to join the North Pennines National Landscape.

The Land of Lead and Silver Project focuses on the lead and silver mining and processing heritage of the North Pennines, and on the skills required to record, conserve, maintain & interpret this heritage for future generations. It starts with the stories associated with this heritage & will tell these stories in ways which connect with new audiences, building support for this heritage & recruiting volunteers for the future.

The project includes a capital programme of works for heritage at risk, work to engage new audiences, training for volunteers & capacity building for the voluntary sector, all of which will build a developing sense of place in the central North Pennines as the Land of Lead & Silver, and help support a vital visitor economy.

WHAT IS INVOLVED?
You will undertake training opportunities with the North Pennines National Landscape and its partners to learn about the community engagement and interpretation related to the historic environment in a protected landscape, predominantly providing support to the Land of Lead and Silver project.

We are also running an online Q&A session for anyone who would like to meet the team before deciding whether to make an application. This will be held at 6.00pm on Wednesday 24 April 2024. If you would like to be sent the link, please email: andie@northpennines.org.uk

You will need a NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in a subject related to history or conservation of the historic environment (or other subjects may be accepted if the candidate can show significant intent to work in this area), or an expectation of being awarded by March 2025.

Knowledge of heritage conservation issues and experience of an archaeological dig or other historic recording project are essential.
