Applications are invited for a HOLMES Indexer to join the team at the Historical Investigation Unit. The position is based at South Bank Police Station. The successful applicant will ideally already be a trained HOLMES indexer, however, if not, training would be available for the right candidate.

The indexer would be required to undertake the following tasks:

• To provide advice and construct an indexing system within HOLMES2 for the categorisation of information.

• To accurately record information from a variety of internal/external sources to enable it to be processed onto the HOLMES2 and Casualty Bureau computer system.

• To process diverse quantities of complex documentation which can vary considerably depending upon the size/complexity of an enquiry.

• To create and maintain designated indices of Nominal, Location, Vehicle, Telephone, Category, Sequence of events, Organisations and Exhibits and structure the HOLMES database for each incident ensuring the objectives of investigation are achieved in the most effective way.

For candidates who are not a trained indexer, an aptitude test will form part of the recruitment process.

If the successful candidate is not already HOLMES Indexer trained, you will be required to attend a four week HOLMES course. This may be a residential course, which could be outside of the force area. In order to continue in the post, the HOLMES course would have to be successfully completed.

The role requires the selected individual to work a shift pattern between the hours of Monday to Sunday from 0800 to 1800.
