Who we are:

NCC operates 5 children's homes including a national secure children centre with education. Overall, the service employs approximately 200 care staff and 30 support services staff across the 5 sites. Our homes accommodate 25 young people aged 6 - 17, our main aim is to offer an exceptional family focussed caring environment where children and young people can feel safe and thrive in order to meet their full potential.

The service is inspected by Ofsted on a yearly basis. Currently Thorndale House Children's Home is rated as Good. It is crucial that everyone in our team is committed and motivated to meeting the needs of our young people and have high aspirations for each and every young person we live and work with.

If you are that person, we would welcome an application for a Residential Support Worker at Thorndale House Children's Home in Alnwick.

Why choose us:

Working at Thorndale House is not just a job, it's one of the most rewarding career choices you will make. Our work is challenging and physical but if you have the drive and dedication, resilience and passion then you will enjoy an exciting and stable career with us.

It is important that our children are supported by adults with a range of professional and personal experiences, ensuring they have access to positive role models who can offer a range of skills and values to support our children to achieve their best possible outcomes in life.

The Band 4 is an entry level post therefore, we encourage applications from people with experience in a similar discipline, but this is not essential as we appreciate that there are adults that hold transferrable skills and values that meet the requirements of a suitable candidate but have never had the privilege of working directly with children and young people.

We offer a comprehensive induction and shadowing process for all new staff, excellent training and development opportunities throughout your employment. Northumberland County Council acknowledges the importance of legacy planning, ensuring that our managers of the future are developed from within.

The staff centered approach is supported by the offer of regular one-to-one sessions to discuss and reflect on your work. As part of Northumberland County Council, you also benefit from a family-friendly policy, pension contributions, leisure and culture discounts at council venues and a range of other discounts.

100% of our team's Band 4 Residential Support Workers are supported to complete the Level 4 Diploma in Children, Young People and Family Practitioners.

There are progression opportunities within the service. Currently 100% of our team's Band 5, Band 6 and Band 7 positions are individuals who have previously held this Band 4 position within our team.

At Thorndale we have four young people (aged between 6 and 17yrs old) able to live with us at one time. These young people are here through no fault of their own.
